Active Directory
From Wiki
Active Directory is an implementation of LDAP directory services by Microsoft for use in Windows environments. Active Directory allows administrators to assign enterprise wide policies, deploy programs to many computers, and apply critical updates to an entire organization. An Active Directory stores information and settings relating to an organization in a central, organized, accessible database. Active Directory networks can vary from a small installation with a few hundred objects, to a large installation with millions of objects.
Deployment
The first thing that needs to be done when deploying Microsoft Active Directory in any organization is carefull planning. Every Active Directory Deployment is different, so there is no one "right" way of doing it. You should always plan your deployment ahead of time, taking into account things like:
- SERVER NAME!
- Computer Name Schemes.
- User Name Schemes.
- Active Directory Structure.
- A Logical Domain Name.
- User Rights.
- Active Directory Structure. (OU's, Groups, Profiles, Home Folders, etc.)
There are other factors to consider, and as always, having an experienced team of idividuals develop a deployment plan is recomended.
Once you have taken in the above, the basic method for installing and configuring Active Directory is DCPROMO. You can start the Active Directory installation wizard from the "Run" dialoge by typing "DCPROMO" and pushing enter. You will be led through a self explanitory wizard that will help you install and configure your initial Active Directory Domain as well as DNS Domain Name Service.
Once you have completed the installation wizard, you will be required to restart the server. Once the server is back up, you will need to configure the infrastructure as planned when you "carefully planned" the deployment. (You did plan didn't you?)
That is that. nnnn
